Nearly Half of Parents With Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Aren’t Getting Help—Here’s Why

Of the estimated 3.6 million women who will give birth in the U.S. in 2026, up to 720,000 could experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs)—and many of them may not get the help they need. 

A recent study from Nested, a nonprofit family mental health research institute, reveals critical gaps not only in the screening of PMADs, such as depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but also in how caregivers self-report their symptoms.
